Village Summer Party - Sat 28 August

You're invited to a Party!

The PING community (Priston, Inglesbatch, Nailwell and Groupies) is invited to our Summer Celebration!

Restrictions have been lifted (sort of) and the long, cold, lonely winter of self-isolation and weird hair is finally behind us (okay, perhaps some wishful thinking there). Summer has finally arrived (let’s hope it hangs around), and our day of festivities draws nigh. Time to dust off your boater, twirl your parasol, put on your dancing shoes and venture forth…

Combining all of our favourite things from the usual annual village events but without any of the annoying bits (like standing around on hot asphalt in a high-vis vest, attempting to bring a semblance of order to obdurate chaos), activities and attractions will run concurrently through the afternoon on the cricket pitch and in the village hall and carpark.

Programme of Events

(subject to weather & Covid-19 restrictions)

Fun runs/walks

  • 2pm: Kick off the festivities with a dash or dawdle around the neighbouring fields. There will two races - a Shorter Run (0.9 mile), and a Longer Run (2.3 mile). For those intending to race, registration will be at 1.45 near the standing stone in the field beyond the cricket pitch. Alternatively, just come along for a stroll beside the mellow, fruiting hedgerows… For more information please contact Paul Barclay (email prbarclay@gmail.com.

At the Cricket Ground

  • 2.30pm: Yoga session - standing or seated (chairs available). No equipment or experience necessary. All ages and abilities.
  • 3.15-5pm: Games and sports on the cricket ground. Mainly of an energetic nature and designed for the younger members, but with a boule arena to suit all ages. Electric bike demo also available.

At the Village Hall & Car Park

  • 3-5pm: Cream teas will be served in the hall and at outdoor tables.
  • 4pm: The bar will open in a marquee in the carpark and continue through the evening.
  • 4.30-5.30pm: Somerset Morris dancing in the carpark
  • 5.30-7.30pm: Meals available from Jim Eveleigh in the carpark - please get meal tickets in advance.
  • 6.45pm: Live music, followed by dancing till dawn – well, till the eleven o’clock curfew…

Meal tickets

Tickets are now available by emailing pristonvhtickets@gmail.com or from VH committee members. Tickets cost £2.50 each and will entitle you to a meal (subsidised by the VH and Jim’s generous donation of his labour) of burger or sausage and salads (vegetarian options available).

Please let us know how many tickets you require and include your name, contact number and address, along with your choice of burger, sausage, or vegetarian option and any other dietary requirements. It would also be appreciated by all involved in the catering process if you could book your tickets early.

A limited number of non-ticketed meals and second helpings will be available on the day, but they will need to be purchased directly from Jim at the full price.

Parking

If you are coming from outside Priston and can't find parking in the village, then parking will be available from 2.45pm in the field behind The Mead - entrance opposite the main gate to Priston Cricket Pitch. Please do NOT enter the field before 2.45pm, as the field will be in use by a wedding party.

Watch out for updates

Obviously, any indoor activities planned at this stage will be subject to variations in the COVID situation. We’re hoping for the best but will plan for the worst, and some activities may need to be relocated outdoors. Watch this webpage for updates.

Note: The Village Hall Committee is subsidising this event and it is not a VH fundraiser. The bar and the cream teas, however, will be run as fundraisers for the church and the cricket club, both of which have been significantly affected by COVID restrictions.

If you have any questions about any aspects of the day, don’t hesitate to contact a member of your VH committee.
